“Rod tip near the water, pull up to vertical, stop, then forward, pointing your thumb at where you are aiming.” North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission instructor Matt’s clear instructions rang in my head as each of us students flailed our fly rods and lines into Lake Imaging in DuPont Forest.
For my second fly-fishing lesson I was learning the intricacies of casting taught by Matt and Linda as part of the Pisgah Center for Wildlife Education’s free courses. Click here for the schedule
We practiced overhead and side casting techniques and by the end of the class were confidently plopping our flys in the center of hula-hoops floating in the middle the lake.
No fish were caught, but I remain hooked!
