Last Saturday the Cradle of Forestry in Pisgah Forest held its annual open house.
A low, long stone building cushioned into the hilly landscape welcomed us. The many interactive exhibits inside the Exhibition Hall of the Discovery Center were a big hit with kids and adults alike.
Heading out the back door, but before hitting the trails, we filled up on the delicious BBQ lunch provided by Hob Nob restaurant of Brevard, who operates the cafe at the Cradle.
Thus fortified we hit the Biltmore Campus Trail featuring original buildings and lush scenery. But we were just getting warmed up after the 1.3 mile walk, so we tackled the equally distanced Forest Festival Trail, with the pond, train and other surprises.
All along the way we enjoyed the smiling faces of families having fun and watching the kids participate in the many activities provided.
