Balsam Mountain Inn

The Balsam Mountain Inn opened in 1908 to serve the highest railroad station in the east, according to their brochure.  The train still travels on through once a day, although the depot  has been moved and converted into a home.  But, this old gem is still intact, nestled among high mountains and full of life.  The folks there are very welcoming.  We were given a basket of keys and a map to check out various rooms.  It’s like a living history museum.  The sunny dining room was lovely and the Sunday lunch impressive.   If you’re lookin’ for a ramble, this makes a mighty fine stop.

  1. Such a beautiful old building. It’s just amazing to see buildings like this one still in a good condition 🙂
