Thomas Jefferson arrived at Warm Springs, Virginia in 1818 at age 75 to “take the waters” for his rheumatism. He was by no means the first customer to enjoy these mineral rich spring waters, as the original octagonal wooden building first opened to the public in 1761. But, because he was the most famous bather the popular attraction became known as The Jefferson Pools.
